The HSC Board of Governors is pleased to open the nominations process for the 2015-2016 school year. We are looking for three possible candidates to help steer HSC into the next phase of our development into becoming as Canada's top independent school.

Chair, Board of Trustees: Mr. A. Kain

Mr. Andrew Kain is a lawyer by profession and currently operates his own consulting firm providing business start-up, financial, and advisory services to private clients.

From July 1995 to February 2010, Andrew was General Counsel to the portfolio and administrative managers of a US $5 billion Bermuda-based hedge fund (the “Tewksbury Group”).  Prior to joining the Tewksbury Group, Mr. Kain was employed as an Associate in the Tax Department at Aird & Berlis LLP in Toronto.  Andrew has extensive experience in corporate commercial matters and advising corporate boards. He has held numerous private company directorships.

Andrew earned a BA (Honours) in History and Political Science from McMaster University and a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Ottawa where he graduated cum laude. Andrew Kain is a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada and the Bermuda Bar Association.

Andrew is actively involved in the Transformation HSC Capital Campaign where he is currently a member of the Campaign Cabinet Committee. He also coaches the HSC Development Hockey Program.

Andrew and his wife Ruth have two children at HSC and two children who are HSC alumni.

Andrew is actively involved in community youth athletics. He currently coaches hockey and soccer in the Flamborough area and he is Vice President and a Director of the Flamborough Girls’ Hockey Association.  Andrew is also an avid cyclist.

Andrew serves on the HSC Executive and Nominating Committees.


 

Past-Chair, Board of Trustees: Mr. D. Simpson '73

Mr. David Simpson ’73  is an Investment Advisor with BMO Nesbitt Burns with over 36 years of experience in the financial industry. He is a graduate of the University of Toronto with a degree in both economics and urban studies. David invests monies for individuals, corporations and charitable foundations. 

David was a student of Hillfield Strathallan College from Kindergarten to Grade 13 (with the exception of his Grade 10 year, which he spent away at boarding school). He is the parent of Ben Simpson ’08 and husband of Gwynneth. 

David strongly believes in giving back to the community as a volunteer. He is an active member and past president of the Rotary Club of Hamilton. He has also been a member of the Hamilton Health Sciences Foundation Board for the past decade, serving in various capacities, and is currently treasurer and Chair of the Hamilton General Hospital Foundation. David has also served for over the past 10 years on the HSC Alumni Executive.


 

 

Mr. A. Beraldo

Until the sale of their family-owned business to United Rentals (the world’s largest equipment rental company) in 2011, Mr. Alvi Beraldo was Chief Financial Officer of The Venetor Group of companies, founded in 1975 and formerly Canada’s largest independently owned equipment rental provider. Prior to joining the family business in 1993, Mr. Beraldo held progressively responsible positions in Commercial Banking and Risk Management with Barclay’s Bank of Canada and CIBC.  

Alvi earned a BA in Administrative and Commercial Studies from the University of Western Ontario and a Bachelor of Commerce (HBA) from University of Windsor.

Alvi and wife, Rosa, have three children attending HSC.

Alvi is the Chair of the HSC Finance Committee, serves on the Executive and Audit Committees, and is a member of the HSC Board of Trustees.

 

 

 

Mr. J. Dunton

Mr. John Dunton has two children who are alumni of HSC. His wife, Beth and younger sister, Susan are also HSC alumni. 

John is the President and CEO of Erie Mutual Fire Insurance Company - a prosperous property and casualty insurance company that has served the people of Haldimand county and the Niagara region since 1871. John is also a founding partner of Leap Learning Technologies Inc. - an e-learning content development company that creates rich content for clients in the e-Health and financial services industries.

John is a graduate of McMaster University (BA, Political Science), and has furthered his professional development at Queen's University and The Niagara Institute.

 

 

 

Mr. A. Hammond ’98

Mr. Andrew Hammond ’98 is the Head of Global Credit and Cash Management for RBC Wealth Management. In this role he leads a team of industry specialists who are accountable for the development and delivery of best-in-class credit and cash management solutions to support RBC's Wealth Management business world-wide. His previous positions with RBC were in the bank’s Group Risk Management Unit and in support of the bank’s wholesale credit portfolio. Andrew has been based in Toronto and London, UK.

Andrew obtained his MBA in finance in 2005 from the Schulich School of Business at York University. His previous education includes a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Technical Theatre Production from Ryerson University. Prior to enrolling in the MBA program, Andrew held positions with a variety of non-profit arts and education organizations, including the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum, the National Ballet of Canada and Ryerson University. 

Andrew attended HSC from 1982 to 1998, where he met his wife Nora, and their twin sons are currently enrolled in the Montessori School.


 

Mr. R. D. Nemy 

Mr. Robert Nemy holds a Bachelor of Commerce Honour’s degree from the University of Manitoba. He has spent 25 years in leadership and executive roles in the areas of institutional equities with major Bay Street firms such as Merrill Lynch, Gordon Capital, and Canaccord Capital. During his career he also served on several governorship and steering committees. In 2001, he was featured in the influential "National Post Business Magazine" as a leading and influential player in his field.

Robert is currently CEO of Nemy International Corporation, a private equity company focused on eco-friendly investments and venture capital opportunities. He has translated his depth of understanding and track record of success in the capital markets to try and further the advent of clean technologies in pursuit of helping the environment through workable green technology solutions. Robert is also CEO of Solar Finance Corp, a company focused on financing and ownership of rooftop solar under the OPA “ FIT” program, and CIO of Robbie Holdings - a Winnipeg Real estate firm.  He has also held, or holds, numerous private company directorships.

Robert has also shown dedication and support of youth programs in his region by committing spare time to mentoring and coaching both soccer and hockey over much of the previous decade. He also supports the new Canadian Museum for Human Rights in his birth town of Winnipeg. Robert was knighted in Bruges, Belgium in 2012.  

Robert and his wife Michelle have one child at HSC and two children who are HSC alumni.

 

 

 

Mr. B Pearson

Mr. Bruce Pearson is the retired former President and co-founder of Pearson-Dunn Insurance and Financial Services Inc. He is an immediate Past-Chair and board member of the YMCA of Hamilton, Burlington and Brantford.

Bruce is the Director of the North Waterloo Farm Mutual Insurance Company and currently serves as the Chair of the Governing Board of the Insurance Institute of Ontario. He is also the Chair of the Registered Insurance Institute of Ontario.

Bruce is also the past Chair and Vice Chair of the Hamilton Police Services Board, is a long time Rotarian and former President of the Ancaster AM Rotary. 

Bruce has lived in Ancaster for his entire life and is committed to community service. He is a Mohawk College graduate and a Fellow Charter Insurance Professional. Two of his children attend HSC in the Middle and Senior Schools.
